EVENTS & NEW COMMISSIONS THIS YEAR
12 APRIL 2014
In Memory of Amiri Baraka: 1934 - 2014
The start of 2014 saw the sad passing of AMIRI BARAKA, viewed by many as one of the most influential, controversial and galvanising writers and cultural figures of the twentieth century
As poet, novelist, playwright, music critic, editor, and cultural organiser, Baraka extended the possibilities of modern writing. Following a day-long symposium at the ICA, we assess the scope of his 65 plus years of work, and consider the importance and scope of Baraka’s career across a range of disciplines.
The evening performance will mark the late poet’s life and work with readings by poets and speakers including LINTON KWESI JOHNSON, JEAN 'BINTA' BREEZE, KAYO CHINGONYI, SEAN BONNEY, MICHAEL ZAND, MELANIE ABRAHAMS and YVETTE HEYLIGER.
Starts 7pm Tickets £5 to £10
